NB Green Party Campaign Promises

October 11, 2024 -  Greens committed to seven different priorities to care for seniors' needs: ensure that residents in long-term care receive 4.1 hours of care a day, raise the comfort and clothing allowance and index it to inflation, cap special care home rates at $80 a day, expand the Nursing Homes Without Walls program, restore the Primary Informal Caregiver benefit, implement a dementia strategy, and end "government bias" against community-based non-profit nursing homes. 

October 10, 2024 - Greens commit to increasing the percentage of the province's health budget going to mental health care to 12 per cent. 

October 10, 2024 - Greens commit to getting psychotherapy covered by Medicare, embedding mental health support in schools, and establishing two rehabilitation facilities for addition treatment in the province.

October 8, 2024 - Greens commit to  establishing a provincial rapid rail network, with daily commuter service by 2028. 

October 8, 2024 - Greens commit to investing $4 million into city transit services in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, and Miramichi. They will also introduce $2 bus service.

October 8, 2024 - Greens commit to restructuring energy efficiency programs to reduce heating and cooling costs for households. They will also expand initiatives to promote solar energy.

October 7, 2024 - Greens commit to establishing local community health boards, which they say will restore autonomy to local hospitals.

October 5, 2024 - Greens announce they have a gender-based slate of candidates for the election. 

October 4, 2024 - Greens commit to reducing the small business tax rate from 2.5 per cent to 1 per cent. They also commit to raising the higher corporate tax rate income threshold to $700,000 from $500,000.

October 4, 2024 - Greens commit to creating a new Department of Community Development and Rural Affairs which would be a combination of the Regional Development Corporation; Opportunities NB; and Tourism, Heritage, and Culture.

October 3, 2024  - Greens commit to a universal school breakfast and lunch program, which would be funded through federal funding and by ending subsidies for large forestry corporations. 

October 2, 2024 - Greens commit to creating a legal framework to establish the right to a healthy environment in the province.

October 1, 2024 - Greens commit to creating a Green Climate Protection Plan, which includes province-wide cell phone and internet coverage, creating a new government office called the Coastal Protection Agency, and establishing a Youth Climate Corps., offering training and work experience in climate action for young adults.

September 28, 2024 - Greens commit to creating a Climate Risk Reduction Fund to protect at-risk communities from the impacts of climate change.

September 27, 2024- Greens commit to establishing a sustainable forestry plan, including collaborative decision-making with First Nations, ending herbicide spraying, halting clearcutting, supporting private woodlot owners, and engaging locals and community partners with forestry management (if the lot is near a community).

September 26, 2024 - Greens commit to establishing a permanent rent cap of 2.5 per cent annually. 

September 26, 2024 - Greens commit to adopting the right of first refusal legislation, so that the New Brunswick Housing Corporation can acquire available low-cost housing.

September 26, 2024 - Greens commit to reducing the property taxes for low-rent apartments.

September 26, 2024 - Greens commit to invest in supportive housing programs and drive the development of non-market housing.

September 24, 2024 - Greens commit to creating a Heritage Plan that will recognize the value of heritage buildings and prioritize preservation and celebration of assets and commits to buying back the Memramcook Institute.

September 23, 2024 - Greens commit to increasing social assistance by 20 per cent and work toward implementing a guaranteed livable income program within four years.

September 21, 2024 - Greens commit to a year-round ferry service for Campobello Island and a bridge between Lamèque and Shippagan.

September 21, 2024-  Greens commit to return court services to Charlotte County and the Acadian Peninsula.

 

September 20, 2024 - Greens commit to investing $100 million each year to fund 70 collaborative family practice teams to cover the incomes of health professionals in these teams.

September 20, 2024 - Greens commit to establishing new team-based community health centres in regions where demand cannot be met by collaborative family practice teams. 

 

September 20, 2024 - Greens commit to investing $170 million each year to align nurses’ salaries with Nova Scotia and PEI’s standards.

 

September 20, 2024 - Greens commit to providing free tuition bursaries for medical school and nursing school students who pledge to work in New Brunswick for at least five years after graduation.

 

September 12, 2024 - Greens commit to providing households with after-tax incomes of less than $70,000 per year payments averaging $25 per month to offset higher electricity rates.
