If your employment was terminated due to a minister’s change of portfolio or responsibility or cessation of their ministerial standing, you could be eligible for funding for outplacement services to help you transition to your next chapter. The federal government provides exempt cabinet staffers with up to $5000 to cover fees for professional outplacement services, which can help employees transition to their next chapter.
Act Fast
Make sure to register with an outplacement firm within 30 days of your termination or within 30 days after your minister’s shift in responsibilities, even if you're not sure you'll use the services initially. Remember to utilize services within one year of your termination date for maximum benefit.
Once you sign an agreement with an outplacement firm, you can send your invoice to your departmental financial services unit. The cost of outplacement services is charged to the minister’s other operating costs budget.
